Vismaya Villa, Cherthala

As you follow the signs to Vismaya down a narrow single track country lane, you begin to wonder whether you’ve taken a wrong turn and what on earth you’ve let yourself in for. You finally come to the end of the road, and as you walk through the gates, the most amazing 400 year old restored Keralan wooden villa awaits you – in the most amazing waterside setting, with the very large garden surrounded by lake on three sides. It has been so sensitively renovated in retaining its history yet incorporating 21st century comfort. It is beautiful.

There are only 2 rooms, each fully air conditioned, with your ensuite shower and bathroom in your own private open air walled garden.

The food is nothing short of outstanding, all beautifully presented on a shared table on the large open verandah by the lovely swimming pool which is a delight, and a welcome way to cool off – whilst the surrounding garden runs down to the water’s edge where you can see local fishermen floating by on their dug out boats.

Why we like it:
Completely secluded, and with only 2 bedrooms you can have the place to yourself if you have friend/s travelling with you or you choose to book the whole villa. It is peaceful, unique and beautifully appointed, with a tranquil and tasteful setting overlooking the backwaters. Yet the bustling towns of Cherthala, and Alleppey are just down the road.
